Essay Rough (late post incomplete)
School is a place that most people have to deal with in their
life. We learn, make friends, and find who we are in school. It’s hard going to
schools where it’s where students find it difficult to fit in or maybe it’s not
in the environment you can learn best in. Everyone has their own preference
about the school they wish they’d go to. Most people wish they could find their
“Dream School”. To me a perfect school for students would be a small school
that is focused around art. Some people wish they didn’t have to learn things
that wouldn’t have benefited them in their careers or in life, since having the
knowledge of the atomic table will help file taxes for this year. Even though
the knowledge may not be use in a day-to-day basis it’s some good knowledge to
know. Students should appreciate all the things they learn in school. Since
school is a place of finding yourself everything you learn in school can cause
a spark and change your future. Not many students view school this way, then
again like most people say, “everyone’s a critic.” Most students now critique
teachers very harshly, even though sometimes the teachers may not be at fault.
School is a place where everyone has equal opportunity to pass the class; some
students feel that since they didn’t pass the class the teacher is at fault,
even if most of the class passed the class. Having interesting teachers may
help, but the key part to a school is having students with motivation. That’s
the kind of school that I’d like, where everyone is motivated or can motivate
others to keep going.
The school, where the students would be attending, would be a
public high school; it’d be kind of like a charter school, with a school
population of 500 students max. To get in to the school you would have to go
through an interview with a counselor to see how motived the student is to for
school, the ones who get into the school would be the ones who are motivated
and the ones who aren’t. The ones who are in between are capable of handling
themselves at a different school. The reason why I’d want to accept people who
aren’t motivated to going to school would be to try to change their view on
schools and the motivated students would help them out with support and leading
by example. The students play a major role in the school, because they decide
what kind of classes the school offers, besides core classes. Also since the
size of the school is so small it’d help the students and teachers to get to
know one another a lot better. It gives more room for the students and the
teachers to connect.
Since students have a major role in the school they also have a
lot of say in what happens in the school. Like most school districts have a
board of directors and vote on what happens to schools, there will be a board
of students that decide what happens in the school, like a student government.
The school will be like a republic, where representatives of some classes meet
and vote to see what the theme for prom will be, and if really needed vote to
see if the teacher is really unqualified to teach the students at the school.
If most students feel that a teacher shouldn’t be at the school, there’s a high
chance they’re not. The voice of the student is probably the most important
thing in my school. If they know it’s important I hope they would feel the need
to express their opinion and fight for it. Many students now, and stay quiet about things
and are very passive. They would rather stay quiet and not stand out than
expressing how they felt. Students feel that they would be shamed for
expressing their opinions. There was a student named Jeff Bliss who took a
stand for his belief and was recorded by his fellow classmate. During his rant
regarding his teacher’s method of teaching, she was very uninterested and sent
him to the principles office. For letting his opinion be known in his class,
but he just got sent out. That probably discouraged other students to say their
opinions on the teacher as well. Even if Bliss’s way of expressing his opinion
wasn’t the most ethical way of doing it, it surely did make an impact since
someone the video someone recorded became viral.
Teachers are what
keep the students going. In the school there can only be teachers with two
passions, those passions being teaching and the subject they are teaching. Many
teachers have different methods of teaching, but some methods of teaching make
the students feel like they’re not even part of the class. It’s hard to keep track of everything that a
teacher says when there are no pauses in between, “the teacher keeps talking
and talking and talking…and you can’t learn from it. You can’t get a sense of connectivity with
it…and it hard for me to remember it.” When students and teachers can’t
understand each other it’s difficult for the students to keep up with work that
they aren’t on the same page. Most students who are good with their academics
talk to their teachers outside of class asking for help, and that’s something
teachers should students to want to seek help from them and try to bring out
their full potential. It shows that the students are showing initiative and
want to succeed in the class.
Students are able
to go to a school with pride if the school is a really cool looking school. The
structure of the school has to be simple, but really creative at the same time.
I want students to want to go to school. The outside of the school can be as
plain as it can be, but when you walk inside of the school the atmosphere has
to be completely different from where anyone is ready to learn or create
something new. The inside of the school has to be a warm environment that can
relax anyone. The school needs to be a place where creativity can flow. The
walls would be filled with art that the student creates that would be changed
every other month. There would also be TV screens that display the digital
media art that would be on a slide show. Many rooms would be filled with
computers for students to use. Those rooms are to be vacant at all times for
the students, unless a teacher reserves the room a head of time for a class. Since
digital art is making a huge impact in our world that’s what will be a major
part of the schools curriculum.
Once a student has
graduated from my school, I’d want them to be able to know what they want to do
in life and pursue their dreams. Whether it is being a digital designer, photographer,
or even a marketer they will be prepared for any obstacles to come their way. Since
digital was the major focus in the school the students should be able to use or
easily adapt to any art software there is.

Trust Is Hard
From an early age we have been manipulated and molded by our social norms. I believe to a certain point that, Thomas Hobbes, was right. Humans were born selfish and/or egotistic. As a child most of us are just selfish and envious of others. We instinctively just want to have everything to ourselves if they don't get what they want they'll start to cry. We grow up thinking that you need to only take care of yourself and worry about yourself. Being pressured by parents to get a better education because they didn't get the same exact chance that you were given. People get taken advantage of, and the selfish people somehow manipulate people so they can gain from it. There are very few people who are generally good, but everyone has done a random act of kindness that had no benefit towards them. No matter how right Hobbes was, every one has some good in them.

Passion Song
My song that to me that I really like is Fine By Me by Andy Grammer. It doesn't relate to passion that much, but I really like that song.
